The City Council consists of one Mayor and four City Council Members elected by the citizens of Gretna for four year terms. The City of Gretna is divided into two Wards (click for map) each represented by two Council Members. The City Council is the governing body of the City and exercises all powers which have been or may be conferred upon the City by the Constitution and laws of the State of Nebraska, except those provided for in State Statutes.

The Gretna City Council meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall - 204 North McKenna Avenue Gretna City Hall Map. All meetings are open to the public.

The City Council Agenda is constructed and made available to the public in the Office of the City Clerk on the Friday before the day of the meeting. Items are generally placed on the agenda in the order in which they are received. Any person may request to be placed on the Agenda to discuss a topic of concern by contacting the City Clerk via written request at cityclerk@cityofgretna.com or 204 N. McKenna Ave, P.O. Box 69, Gretna, NE 68028. The agenda is closed to new additions on the Thursday before the meeting.
